FAQs
How do I correctly photograph a fish?
All fish must be of legal length to be entered (where applicable – See mpi.govt.nz/fishing or the NZ Fishing Rules app for details. The general rule of thumb is that baitfish species have no size limit, while finfish species have minimum size limits.)
Contestants and their caregivers are responsible for ensuring photos are clear, of suitable quality and valid for entry.
Photo must be taken on Coastie Kids official measure, supplied in your goody bag, or an official NZ measure mat. Any measures other than the supplied measure must be made available upon request for validation or in the event of a dispute.
Fish should be placed with the jaw in a natural position (not elongated), against the start of the measure and tail spread to show length. Measurement is taken dependent on species, to the shortest part of the V or the longest part of the flat or inverted tail.
Fish must be measured fresh and not cut in a way that alters its length.
Measurements are rounded down to the nearest 5mm (e.g if a fish is over 40.0cm mark but does not reach the 40.5cm mark, the length will be recorded as 40.0cm).
Photos should be taken from directly above the fish (not on an angle) and clearly show the whole fish and the measurement.
If photos are deemed by organisers not to meet requirements that entry will be deemed invalid.
Contestants will all receive a unique numbered entrant card. This card, or their unique number, must be displayed in the photograph (NB it cannot be digitally added after the photograph is taken)..
