Summer of fun!
The Coastie Kids Summer Festival is an annual fundraiser for Whangaparāoa Kindergarten, created to bring our community together for a Summer full of wholesome fun, family connection, and coastal adventure.
Running from December 25 to March 1, the festival celebrates everything we love about the Hibiscus Coast — the beach, the outdoors, and our amazing local spirit. Kids under 15 and their families can take part in a range of exciting activities, from fishing competitions and sandcastle building to colouring contests and beach clean-ups, all leading up to our Big Celebration Day Out!
The festival is all about helping kids thrive — encouraging them to explore nature, build confidence, make friends, and take pride in their community. Every activity is designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and a love for the beautiful coast they call home. And each ticket helps Whangaparāoa Kindergarten improve its awesome play spaces.
So, how does it work?
Start by grabbing a ticket – you’ll be given a goodie bag full of treats* and a neat booklet that has all your go-to info.
Next, get prepared. Grab a camera or smartphone, your best coloured pencils, fishing tackle, and beach spade because it’s almost time to begin – come December 25th, snap pictures of all your creations, catches, and camping trips, and enter them via the entries page.
Finally, turn up to the Big Celebration Festival Day on Sunday March 1st, to join in on more games, fun, food, and heaps of prizes! Remember, you have to be there to claim your prize. We’ve got cash prizes, we’ve got raffles, we’ve got chocolate fish, and so much more.
So gather your friends, rally your whānau, and register today! Spaces are limited, and the fun kicks off soon. We can’t wait to celebrate Summer with you!

How it all began
Whangaparāoa Kindergarten is a proud part of the Kaitiaki Kindergartens Association — a not-for-profit community kindergarten dedicated to nurturing curious minds and joyful learners.
Our Friends of Kindergarten (FOK) committee is made up of passionate Mums, Dads, and teachers who work together to create exciting, community-focused events. Through these efforts, we raise funds to reinvest into our beautiful kindergarten — ensuring our tamariki have a richly resourced, inspiring environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
What began as a fun competition to help raise funds for our new playground, has now become a community-wide festival that we look forward to each Summer, full of fun, games and prizes!

Hey Coastie Kids — it’s time to grab your rods, head to your favourite fishing spot, and show us what you can catch! The Coastie Kids Fishing Competition is all about celebrating our awesome local tamariki who love the ocean, the wharf, and a bit of friendly fun in the sun.
It’s easy to join in — just snap a photo of your catch and submit it online to go in the draw for some fin-tastic prizes!

Longest Fish by Age Group — fair and fun for all our young anglers.
Longest Fish Overall — will your catch make Coastie history?
Longest Wharf-Caught Bait Fish — perfect for patient wharf fishers!
Totally Nuts Catch — for the weird, wild, and wonderful things you reel in — think boots, seaweed, surfboards, and more!
Just Right Bite - In our Just Right Bite category, the winner is the angler whose catch is closest to the average length of all our legal-sized entries. That means anyone — big, small, or just giving it a go — could reel in the prize!
Make sure to enter your catch before entries close, and remember to be sun smart and water safe while you’re out enjoying our beautiful Coast.

🏖️ Coastie Kids Sandcastle Competition — Let Your Creativity Shine!
Grab your buckets and spades and get ready to build! The Sandcastle Competition is all about fun, creativity, and enjoying our beautiful beaches together.
Families and kids of all ages are welcome to enter and show off their sandcastle skills. Let your imagination run wild — from towering castles to quirky creations, anything goes!

🌿 Kaitiakitanga Values — Care for Our Coast!
Coastie Kids, it’s time to show how much you care for our beaches and ocean! The Kaitiakitanga Values category is all about being a kaitiaki — a guardian of the land and sea. Kaitiakitanga means protecting our environment, keeping it clean, and making sure it stays beautiful for generations to come.
Join in by doing a beach clean-up! Simply collect a bag of rubbish from your local beach, snap a photo of your clean-up efforts, and submit it online to share your good mahi.
You can enter one photo per day, so every bit of care counts — and every bag makes a difference.

🎣 Give-It-A-Go Days — Learn, Fish, and Have Fun!
Come along to our Give-It-A-Go Days — a planned fishing day where kids and families can learn from more experienced fishers! It’s the perfect way to try something new, get tips from the pros, and enjoy a fun day out by the water.
Bring your own bait and rods, or grab some at the event — everything you need to have a go is right there. Don’t forget to sign in when you arrive to be in to win some awesome prizes!
